Our Story
Andy started with one employee in 1989 and along with help from his wife and children started his contracting business.
Andy McLenaghan had been working as a Farm Manager in West Melton for 12 years and felt with the development of lifestyle blocks in the area there was a need for someone like himself who could give advice and help people develop their blocks to fulfil their dreams.
Andy started with one employee in 1989 and along with help from his wife and children started his Contracting business. As more rural property was subdivided the business grew to meet the changing needs of the district. Since then, it has grown to include all four of his children having an integral role in the company, with a range of divisions to meet your needs.
Meet Our Team
Hamish McLenaghan
COMMERCIALAs a born and bred local, what engages me the most about my role is being able to construct reserves for families and the community to enjoy. I have been in my current role for 10 years but have been working for MCL Contracting for 16 years. The variety of work we do keeps the role exciting and interesting. Outside of work I love spending time with my wife and daughters and being out on the motorbike. I also have a passion for cars.
Simon McLenaghan
CIVILCommunity projects are a passion, and after 27 years with MCL Contracting it's a privilege to be able to see these projects through from start to finish. I'm from West Melton originally and came to MCL Contracting straight out of school, never having worked for anyone else. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, time on the boat and getting out on the motorbike.
Jeremy McLenaghan
FENCINGI have been with MCL Contracting for over 20 years, and I still love seeing the look on a client's face when they see the result of all the planning we have done together. It's all about making the clients happy. Born in South Canterbury, we moved to West Melton when I was 4. After University I worked at Wrightson Seeds which over several years ended up becoming PGG Wrightson. Depending on the season, outside of work I play and coach football in the winter and enjoy road trips and keeping the garden under control in the summer.
Kylie McLenaghan
FINANCEI have been in my role for just over seven years, and I enjoy that every day is different, which keeps it interesting. My passion is contributing to the business and making it a success. I grew up in the Christchurch countryside and have worked in accounting roles since leaving school. Outside of work I enjoy motorbikes, particularly motocross, and spending time with my family.
Alistair Collie
LANDSCAPINGI grew up in Dunedin (go the Highlanders!). My career has always been in landscaping, and I was lucky enough to do my first apprenticeship at Larnach Castle. I subsequently spent a further five years working in London. I enjoy making the most of every opportunity and my role at MCL Contracting allows me to do this with the variety of work and the opportunity to meet new people. Outside of work I enjoy catching up with friends and family and anything sport related, whether it's playing sport, watching sport, or coaching kids' rugby & cricket!
Carol McLenaghan
In memory of Carol McLenaghan - DirectorCarol was not only a respected business leader but also a Justice of the Peace, actively involved in various community groups, including garden clubs, book clubs, and tramping clubs. Beyond her many roles, she was a loving mother, a devoted wife, and a cherished grandmother. Her kindness, generosity, and warm smile touched the lives of many. Carol's contributions to mcl Contracting and her dedication to her family and community will always be remembered and cherished.

FOUNDER/DIRECTORAs one of the founders and Director of MCL Contracting my passion for the business has not waned since we began back in 1989. Meeting different people and seeing projects come together keeps the role varied and interesting. Born in Christchurch, I grew up in Geraldine. After finishing school, I worked as a farm manager and subsequently purchased land from my employer. This allowed us to raise our family and work in West Melton for the last 40+ years. Outside of work my passions are cars, machinery, tramping, cycling and my family.
Kim Beaumont
LANDSCAPINGAs the newest member of the team, having only been with MCL Contracting for three years, meeting new clients and seeing their ideas come to fruition is what I love about working here. We have a great team, and no two days are the same. Originally from Lincoln, Canterbury I grew up on farms, with my teenage years spent in Christchurch before moving to lifestyle blocks in my early 20s. Outside of work my weekends are spent on my passions - horse riding, plants and gardening, road trips, walking and time with the family.
